What is an HVLP paint sprayer, and how does it work?
An HVLP paint sprayer has its working principle embedded in its name: HVLP = high volume low pressure. This indicates that HVLP guns use a high volume of air at very low pressure to atomise paint. This combination of high volume and low pressure ensures minimal overspray and wasted paint, and a highly controlled, smooth finish. An HVLP spray gun differs from a conventional spray gun, which uses high pressure to force paint out, resulting in high volumes of floating particles. Instead, HVLP guns push constant, large volumes of air into the paint cup and out of the nozzle. This creates a soft jacket of air that wraps around the paint particles and gently propels them onto your intended surface. Due to the low pressure used, the paint is able to travel more slowly and adhere more effectively to the intended surface, instead of bouncing back or floating into the air.
